When a loved one passes, grief, sadness and the inevitable sense of loss can be overwhelming. It goes without saying that our heart’s desire is to commemorate and celebrate their life in a respectful and heartwarming ceremony.

My name is Maureen Croghan and I’m a funeral celebrant – or officiant. My role is to partner with the family and friends of the deceased, to create a ceremony that will be personal and reverential, one which will go some way towards lifting the heavy heartedness of grief.

The first step
Once you make contact with me, we will arrange to meet to discuss your loved one and so that I can become familiar with your family, culture and beliefs. It’s important that the funeral service be as individual as you are and that the deceased’s life is celebrated appropriately.

I will then write a fitting ceremony which will afford the family comfort and peace and which will paint a picture of the life and achievements of your loved one.

Locations
A funeral service or a memorial ceremony may be conducted almost anywhere and this can be of great solace to family and friends. You may choose to hold the service at home, at a place that was special to the person who has passed away, or at a peaceful, scenic location such as a beach or garden environment. Or, a chapel at a funeral director’s, hospital, cemetery or crematoria might be your preference.

Special requests
You may have a musical selection that is very important to you, or you may wish to include well-loved poems or favourite passages from the Bible, or both. Or perhaps you would like to incorporate the release of balloons in the ceremony. I am happy to discuss your individual requirements in order to make the service special, memorable and comforting.

Family and friends
I encourage the involvement of friends and family members who may like to perform readings, tell stories, sing or honour the deceased in some other special way. If you would prefer however, to have me deliver the eulogy and perform the entire service myself, I’d be most pleased to accommodate your needs.
